FrackAction Protest: Day of Action June 15, 2010

On June 15, 2010 protesters gathered outside of the Department of Environmental Conservation regional office in Long Island City and other locations state-wide to raise awareness about the dangers of hydro-fracking and to express support for the Englebright-Addabbo bill, which calls for a moratorium on permits for hydro-fracking until the federal Environmental Protection Agency completes extensive research into accidents and health hazards around the country linked to hydro-fracking. ;

Hunger Strike for the DREAM Act

Introduced nearly a decade ago, the Development, Relief, and Education for Alien Minors Act (DREAM Act) would offer a 6 year path to legalization for undocumented youth who came to this country before their 16th birthday and have since graduated from high school and are enrolled in college or in the military for a minimum of two years.

Living off water and salt, young strikers completed a 12 day hunger strike in front of Sen. Schumer's office in Manhattan. This was just one of the many direct actions taking place; students around the country have escalated their protests, risking arrests and deportation.

Right to the City - Press Conference and vacant condo tour

On Tuesday May 11th, 2010, Right to the City-New York City Alliance (RTTC-NYC) released a report documenting the thousands of vacant condos across New York City. People Without Housing and Housing Without People: A Count of Vacant Condos in Select NYC Neighborhoods." Followed by a walking tour around Manhattan showing off some of the vacant condos. ;
